I’ve a been a huge fan of Marshmello, ever since his original Jack U remix that set the EDM world in a frenzy trying to figure out who this ‘Marshmello‘ figure was. I love when brand new, never before heard artists have their own sounds. They blaze their own path and don’t follow along with the typical sound.
That’s one of the reasons I think Marshmello gained so much success; he has his own distinct sound that no one else had. In EDM there’s a lot of the same sounds going around so when something fresh and new pops up it’s a nice refresher.
With his song, “Alone,” Marshmello really showcases his different sounds. “Alone” has all the components for a solid song with its the high bubble pop vocal chops, the high pitch distorted synth that’s laced with a perfect drum and bass line and the gorgeous vocals.
At the time of the music video, Mashmello had a beef going with Deadmau5. Through the continuous bashing that Deadmau5 does so well, Marshmello held his ground. As you can see in the beginning of the video, Marshmello feeds his pet mouse named Joel (Deadmau5’s real name).
Marshmello was an outcast in the EDM industry and so all the kids that were outcasts in their own life gravitated towards him because he portrayed their problems so well in the music video. It’s okay to be different from everyone else. Don’t let anything or anyone get in between you and achieving your dreams. That’s one thing that Marshmello really portrays in this music video, specifically, and in his sound.
