Electric Zoo is an EDM festival that takes place on Labor Day weekend (this year Sept. 1-3) at Randall and Wards Island in New York. The festival started in 2009 where it was only 2 days long (Sept. 5-6) and 26,000 tickets were sold. Since then, Electric Zoo has grown in many ways. The event is now three days long and hosts some of the biggest EDM artists in the world.
The highest ever attendance for Electric Zoo was in 2011 at an astounding 85,000 people. Last year, the attendance reached it’s second highest ever at 83,000 people. The festival has even been nominated by The International Dance Music Awards for the award, “Best Music Event,” in the years 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

For 2017 Electric Zoo, is trying to make this festival better than ever. The Phase one lineup that was released on March 3th shows that this might be the hypest lineup yet. Headliners include EDM veterans DJ Snake, Above & Beyond, Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz. These headliners are some of the biggest artists in the EDM scene to date and without a doubt will not disappoint on the Main Stage.
Other notable artists such as, Alan Walker, Aly & Fila, Audien, Claptone, Danny Tenaglia, Don Diablo, Drezo, Excision, Gaiser, Henrik Schwarz, Lost Kings, Markuz Schulz, Martin Solveig, NGHTMRE, Oliver Heldens, Paul Kalkbrenner, Sasha & John Digiweed, Seven Lions, Shaun Frank, Slander, Sub Focus, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Tchami, Thomas Jack, Tritonal, Wax Motif, Yellow Claw and Yotto will also be performing.
This lineup sounds amazing and looks to be even better than last year. The other awesome part about the lineup is that it’s only phase one. There are still over 50 artists to be announced in the upcoming phases and at least two more headliners announced for the festival.
Why is Electric Zoo different from other EDM festivals? The zoo/jungle theme is unique from many other festivals and makes it one of the most colorful and vibrant festivals you can go to. Also, the set design is gorgeous, embodying the zoo/jungle vibe whole-heartedly. The stages at this festival are state of the art and animal themed. Last year’s main stage was a Cobra.
Also, Electric Zoo has some of the best festival food and drinks you could ever get. With all these factors combined, Electric Zoo is definitely one of the best EDM festivals in the world. But even more than that, one of the best music festivals in the world. This is one event that will give you a legendary life long experience you will never forget.
