The Spring Awakening day-by-day lineups have finally arrived as a blessing for everyone waiting with their tickets. For house lovers or bassheads alike, the lineup is no disappointment. For bass enthusiasts such as myself, one to consider when making plans as to where to be and when at SAMF this coming month is Bear Grillz, whose modest Soundcloud description well captures him to be “not your standard 28 year old grizzly bear.”
When narrowing in on his latest four-track EP, Mo Honey Mo Problems, we see a hive-full of drops put together through experimentation with several genres; nothing new to this beast. Within his classic big dubstep beats, largely seen in the first track, Fuck Bitches Get Honey, you hear well inserted melodies, perfected vocal and synth combinations, and even elements of Hardstyle in the track Going Down (Under). Largely, the EP showcases the artist’s technique of mixing types of electronic dance music in a way that does not let down fans.
The release of this EP in the past month to Firepower Records could not have been better timing for bassheads to find new jams for the coming spring and summer seasons, and most importantly, help persuade decisions during festival season. For those excited for Spring Awakening Music Festival in Chicago this June, you can find Bear Grillz and all of his antics at the Bass Kitchen stage on Friday, June 10th, and hopefully go hard to some of the newly introduced beats.
